Kwenzini’s Showcase

October/Octobre 2007….
The band used the 4 days between UK gigs to record the drum tracks for the new CD album due to be released in late spring of 2008.In Cumbria at Banksfoot near Brampton village Philippe worked hard with new found friend,musician and sound engineer Jay Myerson laying down drum tracks for 12 new songs.Go to the category “Recordings” posted on this site to chart the progress of the recording stages. Don’t go away!!!

Le groupe a profité des 4 jours entre des concerts en Grande-Bretagne pour enregistrer les pistes de batterie pour le nouveau CD,sortie prévue pour le printemps de 2008.En Cumbria á Banksfoot pres du village de Brampton Philippe a bien travaillé avec notre nouvel ami,musicien et ingenieur de son Jay Myerson et a enregistré 12 noueaux morceaux. Il y a une categorie “Recordings” postée ici comme journal de bord du projet.Ne quittez pas!!!.

Daniel has laid down the first 4 tracks of Bass Guitar. These are probably to be re-done later

January/Janvier 2008.
Since his arrival in St Martin Dave has put down several guitar parts, some of which are final, others to be re-recorded.
Depuis son arrivée á St Martin Dave a posé plusieurs pistes de guitare. Quelques-unes de finale, d’autres á refaire.

March/Mars 2008.
Dave has been laying down guitar tracks and all but two or three are finalized.Now to the bass!!.
Dave a posé plusieurs pistes de guitare et tous sauf une ou deux sont definitives. Maintenant..La basse!!

April/Avril 2008
Daniel has recorded 5 songs and Nacio Richardson from “Bustakok” has recorded 2 songs plus 1 song previously not included for this cd… “How Long How Strong?”.This song may yet be on “Banksfoot” or if not will surely be on the next one.
Daniel a enregistré 5 chansons et Nacio Richardson de “Bustakok”a enregistré 2 chansons plus 1 chanson pas inclu pour ce cd….”How Long,How Strong?”.Cette chanson pourrait encore figurer sur “Banksfoot” ou sinon elle sera surement sur le prochain.

Dave has recorded 2 of the bass-lines,replacing Nacio’s bass on “How Long How Strong?” because of sound problems.The bass for “Thick-Skinned” will also be by Dave, There are 3 more tracks left for Daniel to record before the vocals are laid down.
Dave a enregistré 2 des pistes de bass,remplaçant la basse de Nacio sur “How Long How Strong?’ suite aux problemes de son.La basse pour “Thick-Skinned” sera aussi posée par Dave.Il reste 3 autres morceaux pour Daniel avant de poser des voix.

Daniel has put down the remaining bass-lines and Dave has recorded most of the vocals. Now Philippe has his vocals to record

6 Tracks are finished and 4 more are in the final stages.The band is back at Banksfoot with Jay helping out with his considerable expertise and skill with sound mixing.

06 — 21h.00 - BAR “LES JARDINS DE LA MER”, PORT GRIMAUD, FRANCE (FULL BAND)
1st gig at this venue. A little strained because of sound restrictions but fairly satisfactory as far as the gig went. Nice bosses, Martin & Rachel.Good welcome. Empty at first getting busier later.
1er concert ici.Un petit peu dur á cause des restrictions de niveau sonore.Assez satifaisant niveau performance.Les patrons sympas.Martin et Rachel.Bon acceuil.Vide en debut de soirée,un peu plus de monde plus tard.

07 — 21h.00 - BAR “LES JARDINS DE LA MER”, PORT GRIMAUD, FRANCE (FULL BAND)
Not many people tonight. The Euro football ensuring that all people wanted to do was watch TV.

Slow start without much enthusiasm from the band, turning into a very pleasant evening towards the end. Great audience and nice general vibe. We were lucky to avoid the fierce storm raging 5km away. Stayed dry!!.
Lent á démarrer sans beaucoup d’enthousiasme du groupe,la soirée est devenue bien plus tard vers la fin.Bon publique et bonne ambiance générale. On a eu de la chance á éviter l’orage qui passait á 5km de lá.On est resté au sec!!.

21 — 20h.00 - FETE DE LA MUSIQUE,BAR DE LA PLACE,GAREOULT,FRANCE (FULL BAND)
Slow start but tonight there was a good crowd. The people were in the mood for some music and we played a long time, 4 hours 15 minutes.
Lent á démarrer mais ce soir il y a eu un bon public.Les gens etaient partant pour la musique et on a joué logtemps,4 heures 15 minutes.

23 — 20h.00 - CAMPING HOLIDAY MARINA,PORT GRIMAUD, FRANCE (DAVE SOLO ACOUSTIC)
Dave’s voice was shot from the 4 hour marathon last band gig. Lack of sleep also made this an evening to forget. very lack-lustre.
La voix de Dave etait enrouée aprés le marathon du 21 Juin.Manque de sommeil faisait de ce concert une soirée á oublier.

JULY/JUILLET

1st gig at the Tennis Bar went down well. The 2nd set was rather long and perhaps we should have played 3 smaller sets.Good crowd. Most of them stayed until the end.
1er concert au Bar de Tennis s’est bien passé.Le 2eme set etait plutot long et peut etre on aurait du en faire 3 plus petits. Assez nombreux les gens, le plupart sont restés jusqu’á la fin.

Nice gig although not a lot of people around. A steady trickle all evening long. Good sound.
Pas mal meme qu’il n y avait pas grand monde.Les va-et-vient toute la soirée.Bon son.

Fred York played drums as a stand in for Philippe regularly in the 2007-8 season in SXM. He is a noted jazz drummer much in demand on the island and a graduate of the Berklee Music College in the USA.He was born in 1974 and comes from a long line of noted musicians in Sint Maarten.He plays professionally in the Caribbean and continental Europe

Fred York a joué beacoup comme remplaçant de Philippe pendant la saison 2007-8 á SXM. Il est tres reputé et demandé comme batteur sur l’ile et il est un diplomé de Berklee aux Etats-Unis. Il est né en 1974 et fait partie d’une grande famille de musiciens.Il joue professionellement aux Antilles et en Europe continental.

Roland was active with the MR SKIN band in SXM during the 2007-8 season playing electric guitar. He was born in 1977 and comes from Carcassonne in the south west of France.
Roland etait actif avec le MR SKIN band á SXM pendant la saison 2007-8 et jouait de la guitare électrique. Il est né en 1977 et vient de Carcassonne en France..

Jerome Armandie was a member of MR SKIN/KWENZINI in the years 2001-2 and 2003-4 He replaced Dan Perry during 2 winter tours.He also toured often with ZAFRAMOON(see link) .He was born in August 1966 in Clermont-Ferrand.He resides in the south west of France with his wife Virginie and their 5 children. He continues to play professionally around his region of France

Jerome Armandie était un membre de MR SKIN/KWENZINI á deux reprises.De 2001-2,et de 2003-4.Il a remplacé Dan Perry pendant 2 tournées d’hiver.Il a aussi tourné souvent avec ZAFRAMOON(voir link). Il est ne en Aout 1966 á Clermont-Ferrand.Il vit dans le sud-ouest de la France avec son épouse Virginie et leurs 5 enfants. Jerome remplace Daniel de temps en temps et continue de tourner professionellement dans sa region.

He lives in Bretagne, France with his partner Katia and their 2 children. Fred no longer plays professionally, however is still musically active.

Il habite en Bretagne, France avec Katia;sa partenaire et leurs 2 enfants. Il continue á faire de la musique,mais pas professionellement.

Jean-Louis Cergneux was a member of MR SKIN/KWENZINI for 2 years from 2002-2004. He was born in November 1957 and is a Swiss national. He lives in the Centre region of France with his partner Arlene and her 3 children.He no longer plays professionally.Jean-Louis was at the origin of the KWENZINI name along with Dave.

Jean-Louis Cergneux était un membre de MR SKIN/KWENZINI pendant 2 ans de 2002-2004.Il est né en Novembre 1957 et il est de nationalité Suisse.Il habite dans la region Centre de la France avec sa partenaire Arlene et ses 3 enfants.Il ne joue plus professionellement.Jean-Louis était á l’origine du nom KWENZINI avec Dave.
